Delta-9 THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis. It’s the chemical compound responsible for the “high” associated with marijuana.

In hemp flower, Delta-9 THC is present in much smaller amounts compared to marijuana. However, it can be extracted and concentrated from hemp to create products with psychoactive effects.

How Are Delta-9 THC Edibles Federally Legal?

The 2018 Hemp Farm Bill allows hemp products to contain up to 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight. This means for every 1 gram (1,000 mg) of product, there can be up to 3 milligrams (3 mg) of Delta-9 THC derived from hemp.

For example, if a gummy weighs 5 grams (5,000 mg), it can legally contain up to 15 mg of hemp-derived Delta-9 THC (0.3% of 5,000 mg).
