How Long THC Stays in Your System

How long can THC be detected in your system?

You might not like what I’m about to tell you but THC can be detected in your system anywhere from 2 to 24 hours after use and can hang around for up to 90 days.

What Influences THC Detection Times?

The length of time that THC is traceable in your body and can show up on a drug test depends on various factors, including:

  • How much you consume (at a single time)
  • How often you consume
  • The potency / amount of THC in your cannabis
  • Your metabolism, BMI, and genetics

Does the type of drug test affect THC detection?

THC detection absolutely depends on the type of drug test! For most consumers, THC is traceable in your blood for up to 1 day, can be detected in your saliva for up to 2 days, show up in your urine for up to 30 days, and can linger in your hair for up to 90 days.

Here’s the average detection times:

  • Blood: 3 hours to 1 day
  • Saliva: 1 to 2 days
  • Urine: 7 to 30 days
  • Hair: 30 to 90 days

If you’re a chronic user who enjoys THC regularly, expect it to be detectable even longer. But if you’re just an occasional user sneaking a puff at a party, you’ll fall on the shorter side of these estimates.

How Long Does THC Stay in Urine?

A urine test is one of the most common types of drug tests.  It’s inexpensive and quick, with results ready in about 10 minutes.

Here’s the average detection times based on how much and how often you consume:

  • One-time use: 1 to 3 days
  • Moderate use: 5 to 7 days
  • Daily use: 7 to 14 days
  • Chronic use: 14 to 90 days
